13th Anniversary of the Apology for Forced Adoptions
Today we marked the 13th Anniversary of the Apology for forced adoptions, with a High Tea at Vaucluse House.
Julia Gillard apologised to those impacted by past forced adoption practices, on behalf of the Australian Government, on the 21 March 2013.
These Anniversaries are important for a number of reasons.
They provide the opportunity to come together. It was lovely to see some new faces as well as those who have been attending Apology Anniversaries for a number of years, with lots of connection and conversations.
Marking anniversaries keeps the harm and the ongoing impacts of forced adoptions front of mind, so that it is not forgotten.
They also remember and honour those who spoke out and fought hard for acknowledgement and justice and won the Apology that we commemorated today.
