Community consultations in September: the new aged care reforms explained

This information comes from the Council on the Ageing (COTA) website.

Big changes are coming to age care.
From 1 November 2025, a new Aged Care Act will come into effect.

This Act introduces important changes to how aged care in Australia is delivered – with a focus on the rights and needs of older people.

The reforms are significant and complex – and they may affect you or someone you care for.

To help people understand what’s changing, COTA Australia and the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) are hosting community information sessions around Australia.

These sessions will provide an opportunity to:

  • Learn about the new Aged Care Act and what it means in practice
  • Understand what will change in the aged care system
  • Ask questions and receive clear information
  • Share your views and experiences to help guide the rollout

Older Australians must be at the heart of this change. Your voice matters.
These sessions are not designed for aged care providers or professionals.
