A new report - Ageing with Dignity after Childhood Institutionalisation

Monash University conducted a study into the aged care needs of Forgotten Australians/Care Leavers and released a report in October titled:

Voices of Care Leavers: Ageing with Dignity after Childhood Institutionalisation

“This study aimed to: (1) partner with CLAN through a co-design process to
identify the key aged care needs, concerns and priorities of Care Leavers; (2) document and
assess targeted actions taken by aged care providers to recognise and address these
needs; (3) strengthen the limited evidence base on Care Leavers’ experiences of, and
requirements from, the aged care system; (4) inform the development of a dedicated
National Aged Care Action Plan for Care Leavers; and (5) articulate features of a bestpractice aged care model that supports safe, dignified and healthy ageing.” (pg 14 of the Report)

We welcome all projects that bring attention to the stories and needs of Forgotten Australians and congratulate all those who are working to make significant improvements to the aged care experiences of Forgotten Australians.
