The end of the National Redress Scheme is approaching

The National Redress Scheme (The Scheme) was established in 2018 after being recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The National Redress Scheme is for people who experienced child sexual abuse while in an institution, such as orphanages, children’s homes, schools, churches, sports clubs, hospitals, and foster care. If you apply to the scheme and your application is successful, you may receive the following:

·       counselling

·       a redress payment

·       a direct personal response (an apology from the institution responsible)

The Scheme was commissioned to run for 10 years, meaning it will come to an end in 2028, but applications must be in by 30 June 2027.

Wattle Place is a Redress Support Service. That means we provide FREE assistance to make an application to the National Redress Scheme.

YOU DO NOT NEED A LAWYER TO APPLY TO THE NATIONAL REDRESS SCHEME. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR A REDRESS CLAIM.

If you or someone you know (who is 18 or over now) was sexually abused as a child while in the care of any institution (such as those mentioned above), please consider contacting Wattle Place to discuss your options. We understand that this is not any easy thing to do and no one can be rushed into it. We just want to inform everyone that the Scheme will come to an end, so if you want to and are able to take the step, we encourage you to reach out now, to give yourself the time you need.

We will discuss all of your options, and can help you obtain free legal advice about your options from Knowmore.  The decision whether to apply for Redress is yours to make. Also, if you decide to go ahead, but change your mind at any time, that’s ok too. We will always work with you and what you are comfortable with. We just want you to be aware that the option of Redress will end in June next year.
