Changes to Redress Legislation - applying from jail

Recent changes to legislation governing the National Redress Scheme have been made.

These changes apply to people who are in jail and eligible to apply for Redress. Briefly, the changes mean that:

“Eligible people in jail can now apply for Redress without having to submit a form for exceptional circumstances.

Applicants with a serious criminal conviction, where they have been sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 5 years or longer for an offence in Australia or another country, must still complete a Serious Criminal Conviction Additional Information form. To reflect the changes, a new Serious Criminal Convictions form has been developed.”
