Unveiling - Hidden Mothers, Lost Innocents memorial
As mentioned in the last newsletter, a sculpture entitled “Hidden Mothers, Lost Innocents” was unveiled on Saturday 24th September 2022 at the site of the former St. Anthony’s Home for Unmarried Mothers, the first memorial in the grounds of a former home. “The sculpture remembers the mothers and children who were separated by the unethical and illegal practices of past forced adoptions.”
50 mothers and adopted people were among the attendees. In a moving ceremony, flowers were laid and the Sisters of St Joseph made a formal apology, in what is believed to be the first formal apology made by a former unmarried mothers’ home.
